You know how I hate spammers, right? Who doesn’t anyway? I get spam mails, spam comments in this blogsite, and even spam text messages. I’ve long suspected that this mobile number which I acquired in the middle of the year once belonged to someone who works for the government because to this day I still receive messages intended for someone who most probably does liaison work for landowners.
My yahoo email still gets spam mails regularly which have to do with impotence, or making your “member” larger, or Viagra. Those kinds of stuff. Before, I used to wonder why I get those when I don’t visit porn sites. Just recently though, my officemates told me they get the same spam messages themselves, and one explanation may be people who send those spam messages might have gotten our email addys from those who email us forwarded messages and don’t erase email trails or use their email’s BCC (blind CC if you must know) feature. Anyway, that was somehow comforting because I was already wondering if getting those offending spam messages meant there was something wrong with me or the sites I visit (usually friends’ blogsites, facebook, plurk, and other clean sites I use for my speech researches. I know, I just put a disclaimer there. Haha!)
Now, back to my phone. In order to filter annoying text messages which sometimes reach me in the middle of the night, during unholy hours, I downloaded via OVI market a spam blocker software which I installed in my phone, and which is working perfectly. Oh yeah, I still get spam text messages, sometimes as many as 4 or 5 in a day but I am no longer bothered by them. Text messages that come from numbers not in my phonebook are directed to my trash folder at once. There is a tiny indicator in my phone to alert me that a message has been forwarded to that trash folder. I access that folder (thinking I might have been sent legit messages by friends whose phone numbers are not properly recorded in my phonebook) only when I have time, and not the minute I receive that particular message which usually turns out to be a message asking me if I need to take out a loan from a certain bank (which is stupid because if I really needed a loan, I wouldn’t hesitate to go to a reputable bank and not someone who probably just conjured my number), or if I need a pre-approved credit card (I already have three—2 gold cards and 1 platinum. I don’t need another one for my debts. LOL) or messages from supposed relatives who have just acquired new roaming numbers (which annoys me, I mean, these days, are there still people who believe that crap? Seriously?) The list is endless.
So imagine my surprise yesterday when I noticed that I had not received a single spam text message in a week! Imagine, from at least one spam message a day to zero, nada, zilch, in a week! Ha! I thought maybe those spammers were not heartless after all.
Or not, because this morning, I got another spam text message, asking me to visit a certain website, which I hope won’t lead to (God forbid) a porn site. Now, please excuse me while I visit that site. LOL!
Merry Christmas and a Blessings-filled New Year to all!
