Because time and growing up can’t be rewound

At lunch today, I sent Kara the following text message:

Me: I saw a very nice white blouse for cass in Guess kids. Alala ko before when you were here age, hirap ako humanap ng kasyang blouse for you kasi laging putok ang tiyan mo. Hahaha! Just like Cassie now. Hahaha! Eat lunch anak. I love you.

This afternoon, while still working in the office, I got Kara’s reply.

Kara: Sama mo po.

Me: LOL. Ang cute nyo nga pareho kasi nagmana kayo sakenn. Ahahaha!

Kara: Napanood mo yung House kagabe?

Me: Oo. Nagkiss sila. Ahahahah! Pero nadeds pala yung girlaloo ano? Wawa.

Kara: Waley nga eh. Maiyak-iyak ako dun. Grin

Me: Sa namatay? Di ko napanood e. Yung kiss lang ang inabangan ko. ngek.

Kara: Kiss lang talaga eh noh?

Me: Oo noh. Di ako makapaniwala e. Been so long since I last watched an episode of House. School ka pa?

Kara: Pauwi po.

Me: Ok ingat baby ko. Love you.

End of conversation.

(Explanation: We were talking about House’s 6th season finale where Dr. House had to rescue a woman who was pinned beneath rubbles after a crane collapsed. Even when Dr. House tried to save the woman, she eventually dies, which caused House depression and a possible relapse on Vicodin. In the end, Dr. Cuddy finds House and admits her love for him. Hopeless romantic much? Anyway, I went out of her room when House was being shown.)

Ate Kara through the years

Remembering the House episode made me remember my time inside Kara’s room last night. When I got home, I went straight to her room where she was watching a replay of Estate of Panic, and when Numbers came next, I lay on her bed beside her. We got to talking, where she told me about one of her close friends being devastated because her guy bestfriend bailed on her in favor of his current girlfriend (uso na ang selos sa mga batang ito). Ok, so I was caught off guard because I realized that my daughter is already in high school where high school romance is already very rampant.

Sabi ko tuloy, “what about you, may boyfriend ka na?” To which she replied, “wala pa no.” I replied, “Sasabihin mo saken pag may boyfriend ka na ha.” “Opo,” she said.

And now I am recalling that conversation and I can’t help but realize that sooner or later, I would have to admit that I already have a young lady. And even if I dislike the idea, I would have to accept the fact that it wouldn’t be too long before she has a boyfriend. In fact, I can’t be too sure she hasn’t had any yet. Or that she doesn’t have any now. Oh boy. Why did my little girl have to grow up?

Time, pwede pa ba kitang i-rewind?
